We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced law enforcement professional to join our leadership team as a Lieutenant. This position plays a critical role in overseeing operations, supervising personnel, and ensuring the highest public safety standards.

Job Summary:
The Lieutenant is responsible for the supervision and management of assigned divisions within the Sheriff's Office, ensuring the efficient operation of law enforcement functions. This position requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and a commitment to community-oriented policing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and direct deputies, sergeants, and other assigned personnel.
  • Oversee day-to-day law enforcement operations, including patrol, investigations, and special units as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Assist in budget preparation and resource management for assigned divisions.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide training and mentorship for subordinates.
  • Oversee critical incidents, investigations, and emergency response situations.
  • Develop and implement crime prevention strategies and community engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain detailed records and prepare reports as required.
  • Represent the Sheriff's Office in meetings, public events, and interagency collaborations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of law enforcement experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Certified or eligible for certification by the Kansas Peace Officer Standards and Training CPOST Commission (KS-CPOST).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Valid Kansas driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in specialized units such as investigations, SRT, or community policing.
  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement technology and crime analysis.
  • Previous experience in policy development and personnel management.
