About Us:
The Osage County Sheriff's Office is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of law enforcement while serving and protecting the citizens of Osage County. We are currently seeking a highly experienced and motivated law enforcement professional to step into the role of Corporal, providing leadership and support in daily operations.
Position Overview:
The Corporal serves as a first-line supervisor, assisting in directing and overseeing deputies while ensuring operational effectiveness, officer safety, and community engagement. This role requires a proven leader with a strong background in law enforcement, decision-making, and team mentorship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and assist deputies in patrol operations, investigations, and other law enforcement duties.
- Provide leadership and training to junior officers, ensuring adherence to department policies.
- Assist in critical incident response, emergency situations, and tactical operations.
- Enforce local, state, and federal laws while promoting community policing efforts.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide mentorship to subordinate officers.
- Prepare reports, maintain case files, and ensure proper documentation of law enforcement activities.
- Act as a liaison between deputies and command staff, facilitating clear communication and operational efficiency.
- Uphold the mission and values of the Osage County Sheriff's Office with professionalism and integrity.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be a U.S Citizen and at least 21 years of age
- High school diploma or GED required; Associates or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of law enforcement experience.
- Demonstrated strong leadership history in law enforcement.
- Certified or eligible for certification by the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training (KS-CPOST).
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Valid Kansas driver's license with a clean driving record.
- No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in supervisory roles, field training, or specialized units.
- Strong knowledge of modern law enforcement strategies and technology.
- Prior involvement in community policing initiatives or crime prevention programs.
